Of course when the advice comes from a lactation consultant or a midwife, you end up paying more attention to them. Even then, their advice may not have a clear "what" and "when". For a breastfed baby, we were discouraged from introducing the bottle too early as it may cause nipple confusion. On the other hand, you can't introduce the bottle too late or the baby may not want to take the bottle. So, when is it too early and when is it too late?
Then, it's back to what we think works best for our baby. For Jacynth, since she is quite established with breastfeeding, we decided to try her on a bottle for the first time last Saturday when she was 4 weeks old. She did pretty well and drank 90ml of the 100ml offered. It will be a week later before we offer her a bottle again. :)
