BEFORE THE TRIP
Tip 1: Good planning is essential. Careful research allows you to avoid stress and waste of precious time during the trip itself. Find out all you can about the routes you plan to take and the stops you need to make.
Tip 2: Find a good and reliable driver, preferably one who will not fall asleep while driving.
It's a plus if he is good with directions too... but don't sweat it if he's not. You can always help to navigate using very simple maps.
THE JOURNEY
Tip 3: Find various ways to keep yourself entertained, as the journey may be very long and boring. Bring along a portable electronic device if you own one. They come in very handy for music videos etc. Your parents will try to occupy you with books and toys initially but if you just scream loud enough, they will give in sooner or later.
You can also look outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery as they pass you by. Definitely beats the same old stuff you see at home everyday.
If the scenery gets too repetitive, take some time off to contemplate the mysteries of the Universe and ponder about all those existential questions that you never have time to do so when you have all your usual toys to play with at home.
Don't forget the all important meals and beauty sleeps in between!
Tip 5: Get directions when uncertain... (even if your dad driver insists otherwise)
Tip 6: Do stop by at interesting locations on the way to take a stroll and stretch your legs!
Tip 7: Keep an eye out for the unusual!
THE ACCOMMODATION
Tip 8: Make sure the accommodation comes with an en-suite and a fully-equipped kitchen if you want fresh food everyday. It's also cheaper to cook your own meals than to eat out, as long as you have someone to cook for you.
Tip 9: Get the help of your driver to unload the car and bring all your luggage in. Doing it yourself may hurt your back and waste precious energy needed to explore the new surroundings.
Tip 10: Explore every inch of the house to find as many new things to put into your mouth as you can. They all taste different from the dust, sand and dirt that you find in your own home!
Priceless. Love it.
